About

Tanya Kirkland

MA (she/her)

Hello, my name is Tanya, and I am an Indigenous queer woman gratefully residing on Lheidli T'enneh Territory.  My ancestry is Cree (Canoe Lake Cree First Nation) and English.

My passion lies in healing, and my journey as a therapist is deeply rooted in understanding myself and the systems that shape our experiences. Life presented me with many challenges, particularly during my youth. I overcame these hurdles with the support, belief, and encouragement of compassionate individuals who crossed my path.

I bring a unique blend of personal experiences, professional expertise, education, and ongoing professional growth to my work. I approach my interactions with others collaboratively, using an integrative method. I am genuinely dedicated to supporting all individuals and consider it a privilege to listen attentively, calmly, and empathetically, meeting each person where they are in their journey.

My work with individuals recognizes the deep and complex connections to family, community, culture, the land, systems, and institutions. My objective is to assist individuals in understanding the various systems that have influenced them while empowering them to acknowledge their inner resources, strengths, and capabilities. I aspire to create a safe and welcoming environment where individuals feel at ease exploring the mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual dimensions of themselves as they navigate through life.

My post-secondary education includes a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from UNBC and a Masters degree in Indigenous Communities Counselling Psychology from the University of Victoria.

I am registered with the Canadian Counselling & Psychotherapy Association (10003027) and the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (16863)

I express my heartfelt gratitude for being able to make my home on the ancestral and unceded traditional territory of the Lheidli T'enneh.
